Beirut Summer Workshop at LAU

This 10-day intensive summer workshop will focus on the regeneration of a designated village in southern Lebanon that was destroyed during the 2023-2024 Israeli bombardments. The workshop will bring together students, professionals, and international experts to develop innovative, sustainable, and culturally sensitive regeneration schemes. The proposals will address socio-spatial fragmentation, cultural preservation, and economic revitalization, while promoting social equity and community engagement. The workshop will culminate in tangible proposals, including architectural prototypes, urban strategies, and community-based initiatives, which will be exhibited and potentially published by LAU and its partners.

The proposed summer workshop is a strategic initiative aligned with the ongoing efforts of the Institute for Environmental Studies and Research (IESR) at the Lebanese American University (LAU) to establish a Monitoring Cell for Reconstruction of Southern Lebanon (MCRS). This cell aims to provide a structured, long-term framework for monitoring, evaluating, and supporting reconstruction efforts in southern Lebanon, particularly in areas affected by conflict and environmental degradation. This summer workshop is not just a standalone event but a vital component of LAU's broader commitment to supporting southern Lebanon's recovery and resilience. By participating, students will not only gain valuable skills and experience but also contribute to a larger, ongoing effort to rebuild and regenerate communities affected by conflict. Their work will lay the groundwork for the Monitoring Cell, ensuring that reconstruction efforts are sustainable, inclusive, and impactful.
